Quesadilla La Reina del Sur: A Review – Chicago, IL

I’ve driven by this place more times than I can count and when it comes time to think of somewhere we might want to go and try, I never think of this place. Until today.

Quesadilla La Reina del Sur is a vegetarian Mexican restaurant, with the vegan cheese options that can make anything vegan! They have a huge selection of things to try from omelettes with eggs or tofu, salads, plates, daily entree and soup specials, as well as tortas, huaraches, tacos and of course, quesadillas.

Huge Veggie Burrito from Quesadilla la Reina del Sur

I had no idea where to begin. Seeing as how I was sure I would come back at some point, I decided to just go for the veggie burrito, loaded with carrots, zucchini, broccoli, bell pappers, onions, rice and beans. It was enormous. My eyes nearly bugged out of my head when the woman brought me the warmly grilled burrito that had been cut in half.

Chips and salsa came with the meal and it came in just under $10, which wasn’t bad considering how much food you get. It’s nice to have found a good spot that can fill the Mexican food need when I get a hankering for some beans and rice and now I don’t have to worry about whether or not they’ve cooked the beans in lard or the rice in chicken stock.

VegScore: 100% – Able to substitute vegan cheese for items with cheese. Otherwise, they have all veggies or soy-based “meats”.
