A journey to the Bay Area isn’t entirely complete without a trip to Wine Country if you can spare it. Windsor is a cute little town just north of Santa Rosa. They have nicely built “town green” with a great little cluster of restaurants and apartments. It feels like much denser living than one might expect this far outside of the Big City.
One of the real finds in this town is Himalayan Restaurant, an Indian/Nepalese focused spot with delicious food.
While they do have an omni menu, they have clearly labeled vegan options, as well as gluten free for Celiac sufferers out there. I am sure that must be a relief for some.
We started off the meal sharing a vegetable samosas, crisp pockets of dough stuffed with potatoes and peas that are always a must-have with any Indian meal. We also tried the Tofu Tiki, crisp patties of lightly fried tofu and garbanzo beans, crumbed with beaten rice. This were nice and simple.
Everyone was brought a bowl of the lentil soup which I thought was a nice touch. To this day I am always charmed when a restaurant provides some sort of extra. Always. The soup was delicious and a great start to the meal.
As an entree, I tried the Chana Matar, a fragrant and satisfying blend of garbanzo beans and green peas cooked in olive oil with herbs. An order of the Aloo Gobi was also had, a blend of cauliflower, potatoes & green peas cooked with olive oil & spices.
We really enjoyed the food at this place and would definitely return when we’re in the area. It was nice that their menu was clearly labeled and they were familiar with vegan eating requirements.
VegScore: 20% – all items are well marked and there is quite a good selection.
