Out running errands again today (do you see a theme here) and took hubby along Devon Ave on the north side of Chicago, where, as it approaches
Western, there are a lot of South Asian businesses. It’s a really unique few blocks. I’d read about an Indian place that I thought we should we try called Uru-Swati. They do some typical Indian fare, but also specialize in South Indian specialties, akin to Dosa in San Francisco, which we were familiar with, but in a more comfortable setting.

We had a great meal! We had veggie bhajia, a fried chick-pea appetizer that was so full of flavor. Kind of like the best falafel you
‘ve ever had. We filled up on masala dosa, filled with super-tasty, flavorful potatoes; chana masala that had the most delicate flavor. I could never decide for sure if it needed just the tiniest bit more salt or was just right as it was. We shared the alu gobi, a cauliflower dish in a deliciously spicy sauce, as well as the Ras Puri with Undhiyu – “yams, potatoes and mixed vegetables served with mango pulp and puffy bread.” That’s right, puffy bread. Mmm.

We also had some garlic naan; because, garlic naan.
This place was a total winner. I want to go back again and again and I want to try everything on their menu. The food all came out pretty quick and I definitely had the sense that certain parts were definitely put together a la minute. Yum.
