I had some Cavender’s around that a Greek friend gave me. It’s an “All-purpose Greek Seasoning” that tastes pretty good. I like the garlic and oregano. It helps to have a good selection of spices on hand, and I like the flavors of this one. I just made the most amazing salad with just a bit of this. Here’s what I did:
Prepare 1 cup orzo per package directions – I also salted my water with the Cavender’s
1 English Cucumber, diced
Sprinkle liberally with the Cavender’s to sweat the cuke
1/4 red onion, diced
Mix into the cuke
1 small tomato, seeded and diced
Mix in with the other veggies
1 can garbanzo beans, drained & rinsed, reserving the aqua faba for who knows what next
Mix in with other veggies
By about now, your orzo should be ready. Drain and rinse with cold water to cool. Add to the rest of the ingredients and give it another good stir. It should be ready. It tastes sort of oily and rich. I’m not sure how that’s happening. When I started, I was sure it would need oil, but it doesn’t. It’s really good just like this. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.
Hi Brian, I just heard about your site, this is great!! Love this recipe sans the beans.. ( don’t do any legumes:) Since my fav food is greek and I go there so often this is a good recipe thanks for sharing… ann l
I LOVE Cavender’s. It’s especially good on popcorn that’s been popped in olive oil. Sounds like “oil” has been taken out of your food list, but I imagine it’s just as good on air-popped corn.
