On a wind-swept corner out near the beach in San Francisco is a little cafe doling our vegan and raw vegan eats called Judahlicious. While they appear to specialize in a lot of smoothies and bowls, they also have a few other dishes to whet your appetite.
As is often the case, I couldn’t help but over-order. We tried the No Shirt, No Shoes, an open face version of a burrito with black beans and rice, grilled veggies, sesame tomato sauce, sliced avocado, cashew crème, and tomatillo sauce, topped with hemp seeds and sprouts. This was really good, with great flavor. I am continually in awe with how well people can approach the tastes of “traditional” food without the meat and dairy.
Next up was half of the Sem Sandwich, a toasted whole wheat pita stuffed with a messy mix of hummus, mixed greens, mixed veggies and tossed in cilantro/cashew pesto, cashew crème, and goji dressing and topped with sprouts and vegan walnut Parmesan. I couldn’t quite place where I thought this was coming from. It tasted good, and was almost like a good “tuna” type salad. I scarfed it down. Super messy.
Finally, the real stand out in my mind was their signature soup Mahendra, a blend of cauli-flower, green lentils, potato, sweet potato, and spices, topped with marinated kale and vegan walnut parm. This was really hearty and it’s what I actually finished first. I would recommend a trip out here to try the soup if you’re in the neighborhood.
