Of all the places that we tried on the road, I wished would have had a bit more time to spend at Laffa in Tulsa’s Brady Arts District just outside of the downtown core. First of all, their menu, which happily runs the gamut from all over the Mediterranean and Middle East looked amazing. Omani dishes next to Israeli ones isn’t something one expects to see and it reminded me how much more that part of the world has in common than they have differences.
It’s an omni place, but there were plenty of well marked vegan and vegetarian items and many other items were also marked with options to make them vegan, which was really nice.
Again, we were with our favorite quadruped for this trip, and again, it was about 10 minutes to closing when we managed to get in here, just like the Flagstaff experience.
It didn’t seem like they were too adept at putting together takeaway orders, but they did an okay job with ours. My one complaint was that a couple of the sides that we tried were put in teensy little condiment cups which struck me as odd that they might charge $3 for something they would give you so little of. It really made me wonder what the dine in portion might have looked like.
I ordered a falafel sandwich with a chili lime sauce that to me just wasn’t right for the sandwich and came with sweet potato fries. I took one bite of it and set it down. It was too sweet for me. Sweetie picked it up, though and finished it off for me.
Fortunately, Sweetie had ordered the Mujadarra & Friends, a cinnamon & lentil rice is served under a lightly spicy farro, red lentil & spinach sauce. For vegans they will serve it with a cherry tomato, cucumber, pickled red onion on top. This was outstanding and I finished it rather quickly.
VegScore: 27% – Close to a third of their menu is vegan or can be made vegan, with additional vegetarian items. All items are well-labeled.
