This is actually my second time at this location, but since they’re doing such great stuff with Filipino food, I thought it was worth mentioning again for our friends in the Bay Area.
We started the meal by sharing the appetizer trio sampler, a plate of all of their appetizers: their Shanghai Lumpia, mock meat spring rolls with a sweet dipping sauce, Vegetable Lumpia, veggie spring rolls with a vinegar-soy sauce, and their take on a “Crab” cake, panko breaded artichokes with a dill-tartar sauce. All of these were quite good, coming from the fried end of the spectrum, of course they tasted good! The veggie lumpia must have started out frozen, though, because parts of them weren’t cooked all of the way through and were still cold. That’s something they need to work on the timing of.
They have a Roasted Beet salad on their menu that we tried that went over well, a simple preparation of oven-roasted beets and pistachios on top of spinach. Sometimes it’s the basic that shine.
We also shared orders of their Mac N Cheez – which was pretty darn good. In fact one of the better attempts at the dish that I’ve had, and their Pancit – fresh vegetables stir-fried with your choice of noodle. This was really tasty, though we all agreed it was pretty salty.
