Café Gratitude: A Review – Larchmont, LA, CA

Fried coconut “calamari”

Good plant based food. I really liked their “calamari” – tender, young coconut, battered and lightly fried. A pretty good approximation of “calamari” – and I’d be okay if you wanted to just tell me that it was young beer-battered coconut with smoked salt, gremolata, lime, and a little bit of a bitter cocktail sauce. It’s okay. Don’t be afraid. Though I appreciate you letting me know what texture to expect. The coconut was a total winner. I hope to see that at more places.

That have lots of odd names for their dishes. Maybe that’s a part of showing gratitude for the food the earth provides? Exquisite was supposed to describe the coconut.

Mindful was the name ascribed to the Turmeric-Roasted Carrots tossed with fennel and cumin seeds, drizzled with coconut labne, over a bed of arugula and watercress, splashed with preserved meyer lemon and sprinkled with maldon salt.

Enthusiastic was my “Chicken-fried” Mushroom Sandwich dressed with tomato, pickles, romaine, buffalo sauce, ranch dressing on a toasted brioche bun with crispy french fries.
