Tocaya Organica: A Review – Los Angeles, CA

Sometimes when you’re hungry a place just sort of presents itself and you think what the heck, I’ll just try that. This was one of those times.

Wandering around on Sunset Boulevard, I stumbled across this local Mexican chain that I think is on to something.

The first thing I really liked about this place was the way the menu was set up. Nearly everything starts out vegan. Salads, bowls, wraps. Then there are the meat/fake meat/tofu or cheese/fake cheese additions you can to the dishes, with “chef recommendations” for those that have a problem putting something together for themselves.

I really liked that idea and I hope to see more restaurants replicating this format. It’s a good way to get more people in the door, widens the choices, and hopefully gets people to think about whether or not they really need actual chicken in something that’s buried in a bowl or a wrap or a burrito.

I had a burrito that they took forever to get to me. Sweetie was half done with his salad and Brussels Sprouts before my food ever came. The sprouts were different, seemingly quickly cooked in garlic and tomatoes. It was a nice change from many of the sweeter cauliflower presentations one gets.
